Online to say my laptop? I insert the CD but it doesn't
show anything about that.
Thanks in advance,

You can download Books Online directly from Microsoft SQL Server website:
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/techinf...2000/books.asp
From the CD, choose custom installation and look into the various components
you can install...you will see BOL in there.

Doesn't it work?
1) Copy Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Books directory

Books on line for SQL Server Express
Thanks in advance.
You're correct, Express does not include Books Online. The RTM version of Books Online will be available for download on Monday November 7th. This download will include both the SQL Express Books Online and the full-version of Books Online.
However, I'm sort of surprised that you couldn't install just the BOL from your Enterprise CD. Did you run Setup from under the Tools folder or under the Server folder? I would think that the Tools setup would work. At least I was able to install BOL that way on a machine that did not have any version of SQL Server 2005 installed.

|||The High Availability series is pretty good:

Which has also been compiled into book form:

SQL Server 2005 also has available reference material:
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/technologies/highavailability/default.mspx

You should also read through the Failover Clustering documents:

This is one business truth that always bugs me. How can a company invest so
much money in hardware and software for HA, but not spend a dime on properly
training the administrators?
Without properly trained administrators, it is impossible to achieve HA.

Very true Russ. It'll be a cold day in hell before my boss pays for training
and it's unfortunate that so many companies think training is something the
employee should do on their own time. The "you are paid to work, not study"
speech.
[There's probably an appropriate Dilbert cartoon somewhere.]
Well, everything I've learnt has been through books, online articles, and
on-the-job, but I'm realising that the technology is getting away from me due
to lack of proper intensive training. Lack of knowledge is not something
either myself or my company can afford.
Don't suppose you do training in Tokyo? :-)

Blank Password Policy problem
We recently started to receive complaints about our install project not
working and giving and shitload of error messages related to SQL. We
later found out that the problem was the users we were trying to bind
to we're not created because of the domain password policy feature
implemented into SQL Server 2005.
After much dabbling around the SQL scripts that created the database
structure, we came to the conclusion that only this piece of code could
correct our problem :
CREATE LOGIN mynewuser WITH PASSWORD = '', CHECK_POLICY = OFF,
CHECK_EXPIRATION = OFF
This runs perfectly fine on SQL2005, but not on SQL2000. We have been
searching for a way to have code in SQL files executed on install that
doesn't fail to compile when run against the server and that will
bypass the password policy in case it's a SQL Server 2005...
Right now we are testing a feature available in MSI that can filter
scripts not matching a database version, but the problem with this, is
that we are missing a lot of features that InstallShield has. In short,
we need Help to fix this issue and be able to continue with
development.
In hopes to receive a a prompt anwserOh and by the way, the SQL2000 code we use is the following:
exec sp_addlogin N'mynewuser', null, @.logindb, @.loginlang
PS : @.logindb and @.loginlang are valid variables that contain correct
info for this SP to work|||crazyone wrote:

Why not just set a sensible password to start with? The same password
for each login if you like (anything must be better than a blank
password). Have you ever had a security audit?
Otherwise I think having two versions of your code may be your only
option.

Whenever possible please post enough code to reproduce your problem.
Including CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements usually helps.
State what version of SQL Server you are using and specify the content
of any error messages.

a read-only user but doesn't have password. I don't feel it's safe too,
but my boss doesn't want to recode the app to change the password, but
he does want me to spend (up to now) 20 hours to remake the install
software and the sql scripts... strange no?

I got this error trying to install BizTalk 2004 on SQL Server 2005.
To work around this error, I edited the file C:\Program Files\Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004\Schema\MsgBoxLogic.sql, as follows:
Find this procedure:
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[int_PurgeMessageZeroSumTable]
After the ELSE, look for
DELETE FROM MessageParts WITH (ROWLOCK)
And remove the “WITH (ROWLOCK)”
Do the same for these:
DELETE FROM Spool WITH (ROWLOCK)
DELETE FROM TrackedMessages WITH (ROWLOCK)
Then find:
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[int_PurgePartZeroSumTable]
And after the ELSE find these and do the same thing:
DELETE FROM Fragments WITH (ROWLOCK)
DELETE FROM Parts WITH (ROWLOCK)
After making these changes to the file, you can get past this point in the configuration wizard. You will then encounter another error:
Deploying BAM infrastructure: Failed to set up BAM database(s). Invalid column name 'XLOCK'. Invalid column name 'ROWLOCK'. Parameters supplied for object 'dbo.bam_Metadata_RTAMutex' which is not a function. If the parameters are intended as a table hint, a WITH keyword is required.
In the database BamPrimaryImport, set the compatibility level to SQL Server 2000. You can then hit Retry in the configuraiton wizard, and the next error is:
Failure to add BAM Primary Import database (database: BAMPrimaryImport, server: MyServer) to BizTalk group (database: BizTalkMgmtDb, server: MyServer).
Darnit, someone went and changed sp_helpuser!
This is where I'm stuck.
